CULTURAL EXPERIENCES

My arts and teaching projects are inspired theoretically and practically by human relations and social context that give them a frame. It is in the frame of the interpersonal experiences that I aim restoring the need for the Other as an essential figure for the future of our shared world. Michel Schweizer

BREST PRISON, UNDERAGE QUARTERS
Workshop

from 28 to 31 October 2019
With Le Quartz, scène nationale de Brest and legal protection for minors

I made sure to explain what to experience is to the jailed minors, that is to agree to take part in a singular unknown moment that requires a sensitive attention and to consider this as an opportunity. A promise of some relief in their daily life in prison that is supposed to be beneficial if they think about the consequences of what they would have life. I quickly made them listen carefully, truly involve themselves through different role-playing that enabled them to verbally express themselves and share their ideas. Simple and practical ideas that mainly used images as a support to stimulate their imagination and help their expression, it enabled me to enhance their production and the result of each of their risk-taking contribution. My main goal was to train their ability to express themselves, to express a chosen point of view and to be at ease by creating a safe space where they could observe and listen, something that they often lacked in their life…

L’AUTRE VIS-A-VIS (THE OTHER FACE TO FACE)
For an intensity and augmented alterity of the actor
Art workshop Ogimus

From Monday 3rd to Friday 14th December 2018
As part of Erasmus programme led with mentally in collaboration with Pascal Quéneau.
With compagnie de l’Oiseau-Mouche, british company Mind the gap and Swedish company Moomsteatern

Because of the particularity of these actors whose disability is associated with a profound knowledge of the actor’s craft, I found it vital to familiarize them with new forms of display specific to my artistic interests starting from the practices and beliefs of each of them. It inevitably framed the nature of the performance trials that they were led to make during the workshop.

For example, to make them aware of the inherent face to face of the show that requires, according to me, to find the ability to look at as much as to be looked at, contributing therefore to more balanced economics of the living. A sensitive point in relation to what characterizes them…

Scape Architecture.

Primitifs (Primitive) questions humanity’s responsibility and action that is thought to have become the main force driving the transformation of earth’s ecosystem since the development of industrialization. As part of the creation process, three teams of architects were asked to imagine a building displaying a sign that could indicate for future generations the existence of a site where highly radioactive elements are buried. Realistic or poetic utopias, short-lived buildings, transmission rituals or even duty of remembrance are many notions that come into dialogue around the imaginary question about the peculiar heritage.

SUR LA TRANSITION ÉNERGÉTIQUE / (ON THE ENERGY TRANSITION)
Round-table discussion

Saturday 3 December 2017
TNG Lyon

With de Bruno Charles, Vice-President EELV of Lyon City in charge of sustainable development and agriculture / Laurence Raineau, Sociologist / Michel Schweizer – Choreographer / Gwennyn Tanguy – from NegaWatt.
Moderators: Nicolas Rosette, Guillaume Chartin (in charge of project « Art and energy transition » HESPUL).

The goal of the discussion was to question the energy transition in a pluri-disciplinary way in order to think collectively. What is the purpose of imagination in future projections but also what role can rule, education, institutional molding or the standardization of communication tools play on our ability to think about the future? What would held us back or help us to create new imaginary worlds? And how does a population feel ready to think about a desirable future and to write its story? And eventually what is the place for art in this process?

LES MONDES PARTAGÉS (SHARED WORLDS)
Art education project

Schoolyears 2014–2015 and 2015-2016
With Citoyenneté jeunesse en Seine Saint-Denis

Lycée professionnel Claude-Nicolas Ledoux (Les Pavillons-sous-Bois)
Lycée des métiers de l’horticulture et du paysage (Montreuil)

To experience worlds is first and foremost to think about an art process or a cultural approach as the treasured territory for a new relation to the Other. And it is in this place that the skills of the teacher and of the artist must find a balance and sharing point. The idea aimed for teachers who want to conduct an art project with their students was developed during the first year through regular meetings about what make a creation process up: the sharing of ideas and its structuration principle, aesthetic and artistic treatments possible, writing forms that guarantee a voluntary and interested participation of the student. The meeting aimed at helping each one to catch a material in the reality that makes them part of our shared world, to display it in a way that is understandable for most and to insist on the idea of experience from the following phenomenological principle: to try reality practically, theoretically and cognitively. I pursued my collaboration with each teacher for a second year as a form of led autonomy, during the making of their art project with their students.

Various tools will be offered in order to take risks in good conditions as part of a creative activity with the goal of a public performance. The process will also make them aware about some works and contemporary artistic approach that are about putting the individual and the relation to the world at the center of their reflection.

PARCE QUE DÉSORMAIS L’ÊTRE PEUT « SE DIRE » SANS AVOIR RECOURS À L’AUTRE.

[Dominique Quessada]
Workshop with 15 teenagers from 15 to 18 years-old.

4, 5 and 6 February 2011
With Centre chorégraphique national de Caen in Normandie

Starting with the following idea: not to be here to make a spectacle of yourself… through several theoretical and practical activities each participant will identify “the economics of the living” that rule all the practices of displaying the self in a disciplinary field such as dance. We will focus on the idea of experience that goes with every art and creative process developed with or without the prospect of a performance.

DEVENIR-ANIMAL (BECOMING ANIMAL)
Seminar – Communication about the creation process of BLEIB

During the seminar, the hybrid form will be discussed by artists, ethologists, anthropologists, and philosophers.
